Each day during our school week your child will attend special classes to meet all the goals of our curriculum.  The following information can make you more aware of what the students will be doing in these other classes.  
Music Class:  During music class twice a week Mrs. Oleson will  work with your child to learn about rhythm instruments, singing, dancing, and many varieties of music.  You will have a chance to see these skills in your child at the March classroom showcase.  Room 18 has Music on Monday and Wednesday.
 Gym Class: Your child will be attending gym class two times a week.  Mrs. Ellwanger will be working with them to develop motor skills, awareness of the human body and how it works, and a positive outlook on physical fitness.  The gym floor is made of tile and can be very slick for children not wearing correct footwear.  Please make sure your child is wearing soft soled tennis shoes on gym days.  Gym Days are Tuesdays and Fridays.    
 Library:  Library is held once per week for a half hour session.  During your child’s library time they will be told a story selected by Mrs. Morgan and Miss Carey.  They both do a marvelous job of storytelling so be sure to ask your child what story they heard on their library days.  At the end of the class each student can select a book to check out and take home.  These books are kept for one week and need to be returned the following week on library day.  If a book is not returned your child may not check out a new one until they bring back the one they had.  If books are lost we ask that they be replaced.  Reminders will be sent home for any books not returned.  Please make sure to discuss book handling skills with your child so that the books can be returned in good shape.  You may want to have a special place for your child to keep his or her book so that younger siblings do not get hold of it. Room 18 has Library on Thursdays.
Computer: Computer class is on Thursday for 30 minutes.  During that time Mrs. Cowherd will introduce a new program to your child and give them  time to experiment with it in the computer lab where each child has their own computer to work on.  The children  then carry this knowledge back to our classroom and use it on our classroom computers.  We have five MacIntosh computers in our classroom for your child to use.  The Kindergarten students will also have access to the computer lab each week for a half an hour.
Art: For a block period of 3 months,  your child will have a weekly Art Class with Mr. Martin.  He is an excellent art instructor and will be teaching your children about design, color, shape, and art techniques.  You may want to avoid sending your child in their best clothes Art days in case they get a bit creative!  Please keep an eye out on the monthly calendar for which days your child will have Art.
