Homework Ideas
Help your child identify letters and sounds-
-
Pour flour, sugar, or sand onto a cookie
sheet. Show your child the letter, and have them draw it in the sugar.
Then say the name of the letter and the sound it makes.

Form letters out of clay or play dough.

Find pictures in magazines and newspapers
that begin with a paticular letter. Cut it out and make a collage.

Circle letters in the newspaper or
magazines.

Cut out words to make sentences.

Have your child draw a picture. Then
have them tell you about it. Write down what they say. The children
will want to copy what you wrote.

When you are in the car, point out
things along the way. Can you tell me what letter _____ begins with.
What sound do you hear at the beginning of the word?

Review the alphabet and sight word
flash cards.

Read to your child often! Ask
them questions about the story. Ask them sequencing questions.
What did you like best about the story?

Have your child read to you.
How to Choose a good book-
Stories should be appropriate for
the child's age level.
Pictures should be clear with not
too many objects on the page.
The pictures should tell a story
that makes sense without the printed words.
Stories should be for pleasure
and fun, but include educational books, too.
Books should help add new words
to the child's vocabulary.
