PHYSICAL EDUCATION CURRICULUM
SIXTH, SEVENTH AND EIGHTH GRADES

I. BROAD OBJECTIVE STATEMENT

The physical education program will develop a view toward the interrelatedness of the physical, mental, social, and emotional aspects of the human being. While the individual is building muscular strength, organic power, and skills, he is also learning to solve problems, to use his imagination, to be creative, and to analyze, interpret, and react in a intellectually and socially and constructive way.

II. SPECIFIC STUDENT OBJECTIVES

Exploration of wide variety of skills and activities suited to maturation level of the pupils.

An understanding and appreciation of the body and how it functions together with the opportunity to maintain maximum "fitness" through a well balanced program of activity.

Mastery of the basic or fundamentals skills involving the use of the body and sports techniques.

Opportunity to participate in wholesome co-education and co-recreation situations suited to the maturational level of the pupils.

Develop of desirable personal-social concepts and application of such concepts to participation in all physical education experiences.

To develop the individual through activities designed for increasing skeletal and muscular strength, power, and endurance.

To develop neuromuscular skills and activities which lead to skills, grace, rhythms, and improved reaction time.

To develop and understanding of the value of activity and the relation to the function of the human organism.

To develop useful and desirable skills which serve as a basis for leisure time activities.

To develop fundamental skills resulting in the ability to handle the body skillfully for the protection of self and others.

III. PLAN FOR STUDENT EVALUATION

A. Comprehension and Skills tests and final examinations will be administered on the following sports:

1. Archery
2. Badminton
3. Basketball
4. Flag Football
5. Floor Hockey
6. Soccer
7. Softball
8. Speed ball
9. Square Dancing
10. Volleyball
11. Handball
12. Table Tennis

Specific Games graded on participation:

1. Pinball
2. Crazy Basketball
3. Wiffle Ball
4. Prison Ball
5. Kick Ball
6. Australian Kick Ball

B. Regular homework assignments will be an integral part of the course.

C. Regular attendance is required.

IV. SPECIFIC PASSING CRITERIA

1. Students must have a 70% average on both written and skills test for each grade quarter.

2. The students must work to their skill level in all activities. The Instructor will determine the level according to the individual units.

3. The students must dress and shower 95% of all class periods that the student is in school.

4. Students must complete 100% of home work assignments or a percentage will be deducted from their final grade.

5. Credit reduction for students absences will be handled according to school policy.

6. All students are required to wear appropriate clothing for regularly scheduled gym classes.

Items are to include:

a. Shorts Gym Trunks, or Sweats
b. T-Shirt or Sweatshirt
c. White Gym Socks
d. Gym Shoes
e. CUT OFF JEANS ARE NOT PERMITTED

7. All students will be issued a locker to be used in Physical Education class. It is the responsibility of the students to secure all items in the locker room.

8. Students are required to take all clothing used in Physical Education classes home for laundering twice each week following their last scheduled class. Towels are to be taken home after each gym class.

9. Students must complete the Physical Fitness Test designed by AAHPERD Youth Fitness.
