Special Needs Busing

Special Needs Busing

We’d like to advise you of some basic information regarding the special education busing for the 2022-23 school year. We ask your assistance in having your child ready and waiting 5 minutes prior to the assigned time. This will help us meet our schedule and ensure that students arrive on time for school. The buses are on tight schedules and cannot wait for children. If your child is in a wheelchair or travel chair, please have all the necessary restraining belts on as the driver is not responsible for putting them on.

If your child will not be riding the bus on a given day, please contact the Transportation Center at 923-0022.

It is the parents’ responsibility to see that their child gets to and from the bus safely. This includes baby-sitters and daycare centers. Parents must arrange for the providers to escort and meet the child at the bus. The bus driver is not allowed to leave children on the bus unattended to escort another child.

Please make sure that someone is home when your child is brought home. If no one is home when the bus driver attempts to deliver the child, we will keep the child and return at the end of the bus route. If no one is home the second time around, we will attempt to try the emergency number/work number listed on the special busing form. If we are unable to contact the emergency contact number/work number, the appropriate social agency will be notified. Please complete the front of the attached form to update your emergency information and return to your child’s driver.

Students who ride the special education buses are expected to abide by the bus rules. Students will be subject to the consequences outlined in the transportation handbook. This is necessary for the safety of all students and personnel during the bus ride.

For your child’s protection, changes in pick up points and drop off points must be made in writing. We require that changes be limited to an emergency basis and that we have 3 days’ notice. This is necessary to facilitate the change in routes and/or drivers. It would be helpful to label all of your child’s belongings, so that they may be returned in a timely manner.

Thank you for your cooperation. If you have any questions, problems or suggestions, please call 923-0013.

Thank You,

Monica Waltman, Director of Special Services
Pete Haugh, Transportation Coordinator
