DMS building


Douglas Middle School has a student population of approximately 600 students and 70 teachers and other staff. Each of the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades is divided into two core teams (i.e.. 6A, 6B, 7A, 7B, 8A, & 8B) with the Special Education, elective, and general course staffs serving alongside the core teams. The School District Superintendent is Mr. Alan Kerr. Mr.  Dan Baldwin is the Principal of DMS, and Mr. Mark Sheets is the Assistant Principal and Activities Director.

DMS maintains a full-time counseling office, special services intervention staff for our physically and cognitively challenged students, and numerous support professionals who provide help in areas of other behavior, speech, and special needs. The DMS Library is staffed by two people full-time, a librarian and a library aide. It houses about 10,000 books, along with an excellent selection of periodicals and reference materials. DMS subscribes to the standard Middle School concept, and works closely with the South Dakota Association for Middle Level Education.

Please participate with us. This week is Red Ribbon Week: Love Yourself: Be Drug Free. A week of special celebration days in the Douglas School District as we take a stand for a drug free life.
Thursday: PUT A CAP ON DRUGS - Wear an interesting cap or hat
Friday: TEAM UP AGAINST DRUGS - Wear your favorite team jerseys.
Remember to wear your Red Ribbons and take advantage of the sponsored specials of our local businesses. Don't forget to say thank you and tell them how much we appreciate their support.

Douglas will host Pierre Riggs HS for the first round of AA football play- offs, 6:00 PM MT, Thursday, October 30th.
Adults $7 Students K-12 $5 WE BELIEVE is the theme.
There will be t-shirts for sale on game day that say “We Believe” for $7.00. See Miss Diggs if you would like a shirt.

Congratulations to the following students who submitted a poster for the 2014 Red Ribbon Week "Love Yourself: Be Drug Free" Contest. These are the winners for the middle school. The District winner will be announced on Friday.

All of these students will be receiving a prize for their efforts. Please stop by Mrs. Knauer's room 802 to pick up your prizes. Thank you to the Pride Shop, Ms. LeCates and Ms. Jones for
donating a hoodie for 1st place, a t-shirt for 2nd place, and a beenie for 3rd place. Additional prizes were donated by the Red Ribbon Committee and Ellsworth Air Force Base.

Staff and Students: The DC Travelers will be hosting a spaghetti dinner Monday night and a BBQ of hot dogs and hamburgers on Thursday night next week during conferences from 4:00-7:00 here at the middle school and also over at Francis Case. There are flyers throughout the building with information about these two events. This is open to students, parents, and staff to help raise money for the group of 8th graders traveling to Washington DC.

Did you enjoy Starbase in 4th grade, then you will enjoy 4H Tech Wizards. Flyers will be available from your first period teacher or in the office. Our first meeting will be on November 4th in Room 607 from 3:15-5:00. Hope to see you there.
