DMS building


Douglas Middle School has a student population of approximately 600 students and 70 teachers and other staff. Each of the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades is divided into two core teams (i.e.. 6A, 6B, 7A, 7B, 8A, & 8B) with the Special Education, elective, and general course staffs serving alongside the core teams. The School District Superintendent is Mr. Alan Kerr. Mr.  Dan Baldwin is the Principal of DMS, and Mr. Mark Sheets is the Assistant Principal and Activities Director.

DMS maintains a full-time counseling office, special services intervention staff for our physically and cognitively challenged students, and numerous support professionals who provide help in areas of other behavior, speech, and special needs. The DMS Library is staffed by two people full-time, a librarian and a library aide. It houses about 10,000 books, along with an excellent selection of periodicals and reference materials. DMS subscribes to the standard Middle School concept, and works closely with the South Dakota Association for Middle Level Education.

Wrestling meeting Oct 21, at 740 in the Auditorium. All those wanting to participate in wrestling please attend this meeting for information on practice and schedule of upcoming events.

Yes, it is that time once again. We are starting another Theater season. This Fall’s play is called “He Haw Hayride” and it is a hoot!! There are all kinds of things you can “play” with in theater. There is production and costumes, tech, art, or stage. Come find your place with us. Tryouts and sign-ups will be Tuesday, the 21st and Wednesday the 22nd. Plan your rides for 5 o’clock and keep those grades up!! See you then. If you have questions, see Mrs. Neal, Mr. Buhler or Mrs. Abata.

7th grade girls who are planning on playing 7th girls basketball - practice starts on Monday at 3:15 sharp. If you are a student who did not play volleyball or run cross country and do not have a physical on file, you need to have a physical and all paper work turned in on Monday to Mrs. Hollan in the front office or you can’t practice. We will go over all expectations on Monday. The 7th grade girls basketball team is looking for two 7th grade girls that would be interested in being a manager. If you are not in PE or not playing BB, please clean out your locker today!! BB starts Monday and they will need your locker!!

It is Ellsworth AFB Youth Center Basketball Registration Time! Registration has started and will continue through October 31st. If you are interested in playing basketball with a Youth Center team, please stop by the office and pick up a flyer.
