DMS – Welcome

DMS building

Douglas Middle School has a student population of approximately 600 students and 70 teachers and other staff. Each of the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades is divided into two core teams (i.e.. 6A, 6B, 7A, 7B, 8A, & 8B) with the Special Education, elective, and general course staffs serving alongside the core teams. The School District Superintendent is Dr. Loren Scheer. Mr.  Dan Baldwin is the Principal of DMS, and Mr. Mark Sheets is the Assistant Principal and Activities Director.

DMS maintains a full-time counseling office, special services intervention staff for our physically and cognitively challenged students, and numerous support professionals who provide help in areas of other behavior, speech, and special needs. The DMS Library is staffed by two people full-time, a librarian and a library aide. It houses about 10,000 books, along with an excellent selection of periodicals and reference materials. DMS subscribes to the standard Middle School concept, and works closely with the South Dakota Association for Middle Level Education.
