This is what I do when I come to a word I don't know...

1.  First, I skip the word and read to the end of the sentence.  Then I go back and try to figure out the word by using the other words in the sentence and by looking at its beginning, middle, and end sounds.

Then, if I can't figure out the word ...

2.  I look to see if there is a silent "e" at the end of the word because the "e" will punch the vowel and make it say its name.

and

I look to see if there are two vowels together because when two vowels go walking, the first one does the talking and says its name.

then

I  box in  the word with my fingers.
 

If I still can't figure out the word...
 

3.  I ask someone.
