play I miss is often welcome to my class and I just want to take a few minutes of your time to go over my schedule expectations homework reading policy and curriculum a little bit about my this is my 21st year teaching at Vandenberg I've been in the district the whole time and I absolutely love the district and love 5th grade and I love working with my husband Brendan and I married for 25 years we have two wonderful children my oldest Tanner is a mechanical engineer field manager for Blattner energy in Texas he graduated from the School of Mines and son and was lucky enough to get this job and he is going to be a daddy soon and so I'm going to be a grandma and I'm pretty excited about that my youngest Kayden graduated from Sturgis brown high school spring and will be attending SDSU this fall for architecture we are going to be empty nesters and going to have a lot of time on our hands were used to going to lots of baseball and football game be a little different around my household as a family we love spending time together in the outdoors hiking camping kayaking one of our favorite activities is going out on our boat either a Norman or angostura I graduated high school in 1994 from Sturgis brown high school I got my bachelor's science from bhsu in 2000 and then later obtained my Master's Degree at smsu in 2013 as you can see I have three different ways of contacting me you can contact me by email or call the school or I will be doing class dojo information that I can give you the sign up for that and then these are just some of my favorite here's our daily schedule a little different this year or just muscle is back to 2:45 our specials are from 10:15 to 11:20 and you can see the Encore schedule down below say one two three four and five again this year and then our lunch is from 11:25 to 12:25 I'm a little how I run my classroom I follow love and logic as much as possible I also have some Zoom expectations and Google classroom expectations on here but that is only if we go into phase 4 for online learning otherwise my classroom expectations are the same for both in person and online so my first thing that I I will treat you with respect so you know how to treat me feel free to do anything that doesn't cause a problem for anyone else if you cause a problem I'll ask you to fix it and if you can't solve that problem or choose not to do it for you I do will depend on the special person and the special situation and if you feel something's unfair please speak to me privately and we will talk about that I'm not going to go over the zoom expectations or the other on here if we do we're going to space for my homework policy is pretty simple it's recommended that your child reads independently or with a parent or Guardian every night for at least flame in it but besides this I do not regularly sign homework I believe that your evening would be spent as a family and I know there's a lot of activities that kids are involved in so I want you to enjoy that time sometime kids may be bringing home Mentor class work that they did not have a chance to finish in class but for the most part I usually give enough time to do that however if you do want any additional practice you can use internet resources that the district has provided that include three flags earned prodigy math student will be provided logins for this in the next couple weeks grading policy is the same are we do dinner bass report cards if your child receives an M that means they've met all the end-of-the-year standards if they receive an EP that means they have expected progress at that time in LP means they're limited progress do expect the first semester report card will be mainly EPS maybe some LPS but usually not an m just because that is an end-of-the-year standard and if you do we need to have proof that they have met that standard we are doing a different we are going to have semesters this year vs trimesters so you'll have to report cards that there will be some progress report between these are just some of the topics that we're going to be studying in 5th grade math we're going to continue to use there in like we did last year Ela Reading Writing language arts and phonics and word work we will be using a new curriculum called open court so we'll still use all the same standard but again it will be a new curriculum Social Studies Weekly but this year I'm excited to tell you that fifth graders get to go to Starbase which is a program sponsored through the. And we will be going off campus to National Guard camp 452 bucknam days where we will learn Hands-On science which covers 60% of our curriculum so it's a great program and I'm just a few housekeeping details do you allow snacks in my classroom and hatch Anchorage now please limit the snacks to one or two snacks I don't want kids snacking all day long I also tell kids they can bring a large box if they want but to also have some that they can put a smaller portion in to bring into the classroom but I will ask them to leave the larger boxes or bags in the locker water bottles we need water bottles again this year due to the covid precautions that were taking you're not allowing students to use drinking fountains again this year however there will be two touchless water bottle problems if they can sell their water bottles up with birthday treats in my letter here it says actually have plenty to exchanging daily please bring enough for everyone and we really encourage those to be store bought book orders I will do the quarters but it in years past I've had people not do them and so if we don't be like that then I will just continue doing before her prettier hasn't gone we discourage passing the school half a tank are not allowed in the school if they are in there will ask them to take them off put them in the locker or spit out their gum cell phones and Technologies SmartWatches cell phones are not allowed in the classroom they are in the classroom in their locker if it becomes a habit I will take them away and parents will have to come pick them up we are going to allow them to wear them they use them during the day in the bathroom and I will take them if it becomes a problem I will call the parents then and we'll discuss what we could do about the situation after school we will have a plan for everything for their routine however sometimes I know things come up and if you need them to write a different bus or go with a friend or you're picking them up I do need a note from you on this is safety measures so that we know kids get to where they need to be if I don't have a note I will send them on the bus or with whomever they normally go with needs to call the office just let us know some at your plans change for the evening so this is pretty much how I run my classroom I look forward to seeing you on the 25th and if you have any questions please feel free to call anytime email me or you cough. thanks and will see you soon bye
