2021 intro to my classes
Show Transcript
Hello. I'm mr. David Horan and I teach art in room 54 at Douglas High School. I've been teaching at Douglas for about 14 years. I teach a Drawing and Painting here and Advanced Drawing and Painting, which are both two-dimensional classes, which means working on paper, canvas, things like that that have height and width. I also teach sculpture class which is three-dimensional. That means the things we work on in sculpture have height and width but also depth. Attendance is very important in my class and so my hope is that as soon as you come in that you're going to head straight to the back of the room. Those white cabinets are where you'll be keeping your artwork and I have a couple of places around the room where you'll be able to find the media or the supplies. I expect that you'll come in you'll get your artwork and you'll get started right away. The number one rule in my classroom is that we have to have a good attitude. You know, this can be kind of scary. I'm going to ask you to do things that might be out of your box, and I want us all to be positive. Come in here with a real “yes, I can” attitude. And listen, you can call me out if I'm getting negative. You can call me out on it, too. Also cleaning and sanitizing is going to be a big part of the expectations in here. Any time that we're working with media that can become messy, that's just a nice thing to do for everybody. I actually have, here it goes again, we have some sinks over in this area. You see that I'm still putting my supplies away and so we have lots of stuff back there, but we have a couple of sinks and will be, if our spaces are messy, I set a timer for a few minutes before the end of the hour and, depending upon our medium, we're going to start cleaning up. We’ll also have sanitizer for our covid precautions. my device expectations are that I want you to learn to use your device appropriately. They're definitely great tools, but they can become distractions. It's essential that we respect each other, each other's artwork, the classroom, the supplies, and the furniture. I'm David Horan. I look forward to seeing you in my art class, room 54, Douglas High School.
