everyone my name is Miss Marshall and I teach 5th grade at Vandenberg Elementary School I will be your teacher this year and I'm located in room 164 and the fifth grade first of all I would like to welcome I am so glad you're here and I'm really looking forward to meeting all of you this year in learning more about each of you as we go on with our school year I just wanted to give you some information about myself as well as classroom expectations graduated from Black Hills State University I have been teaching for 7 years and I'm going into my third year at Vandenberg Elementary School I love to spend time with my family and be out in nature as much as possible I also have two kids Alexandria and Xander want to join in the Middle School this year and the other one is in first grade and we also have two cats that are very important to our family as well as some pictures things that are important to me as you see there's also the school in the picture I really enjoy my job as a teacher and pictures of my children as well as our cat some Outdoor Adventures we have taken so here are some books that I really enjoyed reading in class and on my own time wanted to also go over with you the correct young that we will be using this year things are in again we also use that last year for reading and writing we are very excited to be using open court this year for social studies the same as last year again it's my world interactive and science is also customize last year where we will be using the Interactive Science curriculum far as my classroom expectations go they follow Iowa under the same school rules that we have being safe respectful and being responsive as you have seen I do have those but up a little bit more into detail under those bullet points for what we are expected to do in the classroom to make sure we are all safe respectful and response the takeaway I want you to get from this is that I want everybody to feel respected in his classroom both for me staff and other students so basically just using the Golden Rule free everybody as you wanted to be treated I don't allow any put-downs in the class or any bowling of course if that were to happen then we would follow the discipline rules as outline in the school policy to make sure everybody is feeling respected as far as making sure everybody has a great education and the same opportunities as everybody I just please ask that you do listen to the teacher and others when you are speaking making sure you're acting appropriate questions and having appropriate responses to questions being to class on time and being prepared for class of course following through I'm participating in class activities call Mark expectations I will not be assigning homework very often I do not believe in homework just for the sake of doing homework when homework is assigned I please ask that you do realize that it is serving a purpose because it does help students make the most of their school year there's only one permanent ongoing homework assignment that I asked that you can play with your child or they can complete it independently and that is at least 20 minutes per night of independent reading or a goal of 100 minutes per week so I understand that we all have different obligations and a lot of children are in sports and other events at least hit that goal of 100 minutes per week that would help your student greatly I also encouraged that if you are able to to have a discussion with them about their reading because discussion Dad's health comprehension the behavior expectations of those follow under the school rules as well they're the same in my classroom respect other people's feelings date body and property with the instructions of all follow the classroom and school rules and no obscene offensive language gestures or noises if your child is violating any of these behaviors the appropriate expectations are so they can correct if it turns into a problem where you're at they are consistently breaking the rules and they choose not to correct I'm sending them to the refocus room and if it continues to be an issue still we will of course contact the parents and we will work together to figure out a plan to get the child back on track of course if it severe disruption or assistant is becoming violent then they will be immediately removed from the classroom and referred to the principal and she will help work with us on that with the child where's my contact information know that you are able to contact me at anytime during the year or even now if you have any additional questions about the classroom or about me before you see me at the open house my email address is Crystal.
