Douglas Middle School is a PBIS school. We believe that most individuals modify behavior faster under praise than under blame. Therefore, the general approach to behavior at DMS is a positive one. This will include attempting to identify the social, emotional, and academic problems that underlie a student’s behavior, and striving to meet his or her social, emotional, and academic needs. We believe that every individual needs to feel worthy and accepted as a person.

Thank you visiting the Douglas Middle School website.  Our highly qualified staff strives to build a productive school environment with common goals towards student success. We provide a variety of activities that make our middle school experience rewarding for all students.

DMS offers educational and extracurricular programs for students in grades six through eight. The school has a student population of more than 700 students and over 70 teachers and other staff. The school maintains a full-time counseling office and has special services intervention staff for students with specific needs as well as gifted programs.

We have many specialists who provide help in areas of behavior, speech, and other special needs.  Our library has more than 12,000 books along with a selection of periodicals, audio, e-books, and other reference materials.  The large collection of resources our 21st century library supplies supports the common core state standards.

Douglas Middle School takes great pride in providing all students an opportunity to learn and grow in a positive climate; recognizing each student as an individual.  This is accomplished through a differentiated instructional approach to help all students succeed.  The Integration of technology and many other hands-on projects offered, creates an environment that encourages students to involve themselves with their own learning. DMS prides itself in providing an academically challenging curriculum that engages the student learner.
