Douglas High School Names George Johnson as New Head Football Coach

Box Elder, SD – Douglas High School is excited to announce the hiring of George Johnson as the next head coach of the Patriot football team.

Coach Johnson brings a strong football background and a deep connection to western South Dakota. A graduate of Rapid City Stevens High School, Johnson earned All-State honors during his senior season.

In 2024, he joined the Douglas High School coaching staff as an assistant, quickly establishing himself as a positive influence within the team and school community.

“Coach Johnson is passionate, dedicated, and ready to lead,” said Josh Haaland, Activities Director at Douglas High School. “He understands our students, values our culture, and is committed to building a program rooted in discipline, integrity, and hard work.”

Johnson now steps into the head coaching role with a clear vision for the future of Patriot football, focusing on player development, team unity, and competitive excellence.

Douglas High School is proud to welcome Coach Johnson into this leadership role and looks forward to an exciting new chapter for the football program.
