At Douglas Middle School, students are organized into grade-level teams to help create a smaller, more supportive learning environment. Each grade is divided into two teams: 6A and 6B, 7A and 7B, and 8A and 8B. Students on each team have most of their core classes in the same hallway with the same group of teachers and classmates. This allows teachers to work closely together to support students academically, socially, and emotionally.
Students attend their elective classes by grade level whenever possible. In some cases, certain elective courses may include both 7th and 8th grade students. We intentionally schedule our 6th graders separately from older students when possible to ease the transition to middle school and create an environment appropriate for their developmental needs.
This team structure helps students build strong relationships with teachers and peers while making a large middle school feel more manageable and connected.
