Bus Expectations

For the safety and comfort of all students, we ask that everyone follow a few simple bus expectations. When concerns arise, bus drivers may complete an Incident Report to document what occurred. Their role is to ensure a safe environment and communicate any concerns. If your student receives an Incident Report and you have questions, families are encouraged to call 923-0022.

Basic expectations for riding a Douglas School District bus:

• Arrive at the bus stop 5 minutes early. 
• Students must have ID badges out and ready to scan to get ON and OFF the bus. 
• Sit properly in the seat (back to back, bottom to bottom), with backpacks on laps and bodies staying within the seat area.
• Food and drinks should be saved for before or after the bus ride.
• Keep your hands, feet, and objects to yourself to help maintain a safe environment.
• Remain seated and avoid throwing any items on the bus.
• Cell phones may be used briefly for checking in with parents, but should not be used to take photos or videos of yourself or others during the ride.
• Follow the bus driver's instructions the first time and every time you ride the bus. 

Behavior Expectations:

Please note: These expectations are consistent across the district, though drivers may adjust guidelines slightly based on the age group of students they serve.

• Drivers will provide reminders and verbal warnings when appropriate. If a situation is considered a safety concern or habitual disobedience, an Incident Report may be completed at the end of the route.
• Incident Reports are typically processed within a day or two and sent home with the students, using the district Bus Behavior Chart.
• A parent or guardian is asked to review, sign, and return the pink copy within three days.
